Councilor in Sengerema District, Mwanza Region has asked the government
to amend the alcohol law Section 28 of 1968 which prohibits vendors from
selling alcohol during work hours.
Addressing a public rally at Nyampuluko yesterday, the councilor said: “The law is hindering effective revenue collection.”
According to him, the law was formed many years ago when there was a booming selling of local beer.
He
said it was enacted in 1948 when local brews dominated the industry.
“Unlike in the past, most alcohol joints now sell beer,” he said
