Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has punished station TV of East Africa Television (EATV) to pay a fine of Tsh 3 million due to violation of the principles of publicity after playing with video of the song 'Panya' of Bracket which allegedly does not conduct Tanzanian ethics.
In addition, E-FM has been sentenced to pay TSh 4 million after their airtime of program of 'Ubaoni' during interview with the girl used witchcraft who confessed to killing.
Reading a copy of the judgment in front of the press in here yesterday, Vice-Chairman of the Committee of the content of TCRA, Joseph Mapunda said after reviewing the details of the defense from the leaders of these centers, the committee has decided to charge EATV fine Sh3 millions and Sh4 millions for E-Fm.
"With the penalty we have issued a stern warning for violating the code of content, but also this mistake will not be repeated as we promised to provide more severe punishment,"
he said.
In a preliminary statement of condemnation, Mapunda said the penalty given after EATV center through a period of 'Dense Music' video for the song of Panya of Bracket from Nigeria featuring Tecno went on air.
"Some costumes used in the song are not compatible with the values of Tanzania. And in the case of E-FM have been punished after allowing a program of 'Ubaoni' to go On air of a girl witch who confessed to killing, "said Mapunda.
After receiving a copy of the judgment, the Director of EATV, Regina Mengi said they have no problem with that punishment and that she communicates it to the leadership of their company.
"I still do not respond to any decision to accept or appeal will depend on the decision of the board," she said.
Director of E-FM, Scolastica Zula said she was pleased with the verdict, it did not feel like there are grounds for appeal.
