Emmanuel Macron, 39, becomes France’s youngest president after wining French presidential election

Former banker Emmanuel Macron, pictured with his wife Briggitte, 64, is set to become France youngest president at 39 after winning 65.5 per cent of the vote in a tense election against  far-right National Front (FN) candidate Marine Le Pen, 48.

Not only will he be the youngest president ever in France, his party En Marche! 'On the Move' has existed for just more than a year.

French court suspends ban on Muslim women swimwear ’Burkini’

France’s highest administrative court has ruled that the ban on muslim female swimwear 'burkini' being enforced on the country’s beaches are illegal and a violation of fundamental liberties. More than 30 French towns have banned burkinis, which cover the whole body except for the face, hands and feet.  Officials say the ban on the burkini was a response to growing terror concerns.

Human rights activists however argued that such measures are illegal, and that pushes to outlaw the garment are Islamophobic. The ruling of the State Council suspends the ban in the town of Villeneuve-Loubet, near Nice, and this could now affect cities around the country that have prohibited the full-length swimsuit.

In their ruling, three senior judges said the ban was clearly an illegal blow to fundamental liberties such as the freedom of movement, freedom of conscience and personal liberty. They found that no evidence produced in favour of the prohibition proved a risk to public order was being caused by women wearing such swimwear.

Nice terror attack: Driver who killed 84 on French Riviera was criminal known to police

Police on Friday have identified the man who used a hired lorry to kill at least 84 people in a terrorist attack during Bastille Day celebrations in Nice, France, as a well known French-Tunisian criminal.

The man was shot by police after he deliberately drove at a packed street of spectators, killing at least 84 and wounding many more.

According to AFP, the perpetrator was a local 30-year-old career criminal who was born in Tunisia before moving to France.

His 19 tonne lorry had zigzagged through crowds massing on the Promenade des Anglais on Thursdaynight, killing anyone he could.

After being stopped by armed police, who fired bullets into the lorry’s windscreen, the so far unnamed man exchanged fire with officers using a 7.65pistol, before being shot dead.

The attack, which comes eight months and a day after Isis gunmen and suicide bombers killed 130 people in Paris, appeared so far to be the work of a lone assailant.

"People went down like ninepins," Jacques, who runs Le Queenie restaurant on the seafront, told France Info.

"I saw people go down," bystander Franck Sidoli, who was visibly shocked, told Reuters at the scene. "Then the truck stopped, we were just five metres away. A woman was there, she lost her son. Her son was on the ground, bleeding."

The fact that the killer was known to the authorities will be of grave concern to those trying to prevent terrorist attacks in France.

Former France first lady says she will cut off ears of his husband in his sleep if he cheats on her

Carla Bruni, 48, who is wife to former president of France, Nicolas Sarkozy, 61, was asked what her reaction will be if her husband were to be unfaithful. Monsieur Nicolas could be in danger of losing his ears if he doesn't listen to his wife.

The former first lady jokingly said: 'I could do extreme gestures, like cut his throat or his ears when he's asleep for example.

'I think you should avoid to cheat if you can, it's too dangerous. It's a road to a break up. 

'Also, fidelity, this is a sine qua non (essential) condition for a wedding, I guess. Why cheat and lie whereas you have the possibility to choose your life, get married or not, have kids or not.'

Bruni who made a name for herself as a model and singer married Sarkozy in 2008, months after he split from his second wife, Cecilia.
