Police
in Singida,Tanzania have arrested two traders for allegedly hiding 655 bags
of sugar in a way to falsify its shortage and hike the prices.
Speaking
to The Citizen at the end of the week in his office, Singida District
Commissioner Saidi Amanzi said the suspects were arrested after the
police and Singida municipal officials conducted a special operation on
the root cause of sugar shortages in the district.
According
to Mr Amanzi, the operation was conducted after a tip-off from wananchi
that some traders have hidden bags of sugar for creating the artificial
crisis.
The
first trader who was hiding a total of 335 bags of sugar was arrested
at Unyakindi area while the second, with a total of 320 bags was
arrested in Minga Street.
Mr Amanzi said the traders will be sent to court after completion of police investigations.
