Magufuli’s Tanzania’s seems to be quite a charmer especially in regional politics and economic issues.
Whether it is residents of neighboring countries wishing they had such a president or the presents themselves falling to the offers of the country and its president, there is little argument that Tanzania is winning. The biggest such prove came in the Pipeline deal from the Indian Ocean to landlocked Uganda deal where, despite Tanzania’s late entry in the negotiations at a point when it seemed Kenya had sealed the deal, Uganda went with Tanzania.
This is even despite Uhuru Kenyatta’s meeting Yoweri Museveni. Now it is Kagame who has opted to construct rail links from the Indian Ocean through Tanzania. The Rwandan Finance Minister, Claver Gatete says that Rwanda has opted for the Tanzania route since it is cheaper and shorter. Quoting studies done by EAC member states, it will apparently cost about $800 million to $900 million, for the Tanzanian option, Gatete said in an interview Thursday at the World Economic Forum on Africa in the capital, Kigali. The Kenyan project would cost $1 billion.
This will be a blow to Kenya as member countries continue to position themselves attracting neighboring and foreign investment at its cost.
