Memory Togarepi succeeded in sneaking into a prison farm in Chiredzi, Zimbabwe, to visit her husband, Ngwarati, but was caught before she could could escape. According to local newspaper, My Zimbabwe, the 'A' class inmate at Chiredzi Prison used a smuggled mobile phone to communicate with his wife.
'A' class prisoners are those with short sentences or those who are left with a few months to freedom. They therefore perform duties under minimal security including going to the fields and herding cattle.
27-year old Memory Togarepi appeared before Chiredzi Magistrate, Geraldine Mutsoto on Thursday, after a charge of contravening section 88 (1) of Prisons Act (Unlawful Communication with a Prisoner) was levelled against her.
Prosecutor Doubt Phiri told the court that on April 17, 2016, Ngwarati who is serving jail term for fraud communicated with his wife, Togarepi on the phone but their conversation was overheard by a son to one of the prison officers who tipped them off and facilitated the arrest.
Magistrate Mutsoto convicted the h0rny woman and sentenced her to pay a fine of $120, failure of which will attract a punishment of 45 days in jail.
