Eleven suspects arrested over the Sh400 million heist at Barclays Bank in 2014 have been acquitted.
The Kisutu Resident Magistrate’s Court on Thursday ruled that the 11 had no case to answer.
“There
is no evidence that touched the accused in this case, and so, the
verdict of this court is that the accused have no case to answer and I
am duly discharging them,” ruled Resident Magistrate Warialwande Lema.
Testimonies
from the prosecution and 20 witnesses failed to establish a clear case
against the accused who include the bank’s Kinondoni Branch managers
Alune Kasililika and Neema Batchu.
The
11 were accused of being the masterminds behind the dramatic gun-point
stealing of Sh390.2 million, $55,000 and euros 2,150 on April 15, 2014.
